Classified Trading Rules: Please read before posting Empty Classified Trading Rules: Please read before posting

    By posting in the classified forums you agree to abide by all of the rules of this forum, including those below, and agree not to enter into any arguments with moderators, whose decision is final and are empowered to;
    a) Issue penalties upon breaking the rules at their discretion varying from warnings to a temporary trading ban to permanent exclusion from the forums
    b) remove any posts in any other forums questioning/arguing any decisions made by moderators
    c) assist the police with any prosecution following fraudulent actions

Advertising stolen goods or pirated movies/games will result in an instant and permanent forum ban.

    General

    • You must be over 18 to trade here.
    • You may only trade personally owned items which are legal to sell in the UK.
    • You may not trade:
    • Pro-traders are prohibited from using our classifieds. These are members who trade with the intent of making a profit. Goods traded here are for, or have been used for personal use. Therefore the trading of multiple items is not normally acceptable and members should contact a moderator if you wish an exception to be considered
    • Profiteering: Items must not be sold for more than the original price paid by the seller including any post and packing charges. There are exceptional circumstances where common sense needs to be applied to the profiteering rules. E.g.
selling an item that was given free with another retail purchase or contract
selling an item received through a work incentive or birthday/Xmas present
adding P&P when forwarding a brand new shop bought bargain
    • Collectible, rare or vintage items: Many items are no longer available new or have become more valuable due to their collectable nature. These can be sold at a suitable price set by the seller. We don’t wish to see items sold for a profit any sooner than after 6 months of ownership and members who abuse this exception may have their trading rights removed.
Price comparison rules still apply to collectable or rare items. The only comparisons members may use are previous sales on DBCW. Ebay and other website sales are too variable for comparison purposes and the classifieds are about a fair price, not a maximum price.
    • You may have one thread per trading forum. You may list multiple items in one thread
    • You must include a price in your for sale or trade post even if you are offering the goods to trade (because people inevitably offer you a price for goods even if they are advertised for trade).
    • You cannot increase your asking price.
    • You must include the P&P charge to UK. If not stated separately it will be assumed that it’s included in your asking price. Collection only items are excluded.
    • Imported (non-UK) goods must have their country of origin stated.
    • Accepted payment methods must be stated.
    • You may have one price for a 'bulk' sale but you can't sell the goods individually until you price each item.
    • You cannot advertise or offer your items for sale elsewhere. The following are exempt from this rule but you must keep your listing up-to-date: Computer software, DVDs and Blu-rays, CDs, Video Games & Motor Vehicles. If you wish to make people elsewhere aware of the goods you have for sale here, please refer them to your advert and ask that they reply to your thread making an offer in the normal way.
    • Describe the goods accurately. Be honest. If you misrepresent the condition or history of the goods, then the purchaser is within their rights to demand a partial refund or a return of the goods at your expense.
    • All traders must be able to visit the forum to deal with their trades roughly on a work-daily basis to respond to questions/offers etc. (i.e. every day or two). You will not be expected to visit weekends and this will be taken into account if there is a delay in your responding.

    Negotiation

    • All discussions including offers, acceptances and refusals should be shown clearly in the thread (not by email or PM). Once a deal is agreed you may use whatever form of external communication you like to finalise payment details etc. Your general location and details of equipment are not considered to be valid reasons for using off thread communications. We insist on this rule because we need to see all the negotiations to be able to mediate a solution to a dispute.
    • You cannot make a higher offer to gazump after a deal has been agreed.
    • You should only make an offer for an item when you have the funds to pay for it. The seller may agree to wait for payment but this should be discussed in the thread with the seller and they are entitled to refuse.
    • If a vendor reduces the price for a potential purchaser, that price becomes the new asking price for all. However, the item is reserved for that potential purchaser for 1 hour to accept that offer before others can buy it at the new price. (This is known as 'the one hour rule'.)
    • The first unconditional offer of the asking price secures the sale unless it's stated otherwise in the listing (e.g. Bulk or Trade Preferred)
    • The vendor cannot accept an offer higher than the asking price.
    • Do not edit your posts to secure a deal (e.g. altering your offer price upward to beat a rival buyer). All post edits are recorded so any attempted deception will be found and dealt with severely.
    • Vendors may choose who they deal with if they have had a particularly negative or positive experience with a member. You must contact a moderator if you wish to apply this rule.
    • Once a deal has been agreed or an unconditional asking price offer made, you may not withdraw from it without a very good reason. You will need to PM a moderator with an explanation but the moderators still reserve the right to impose a short trading ban.
    • You may only bump your thread 10 hours after the last post.
    • You may only post normal trading dialogue in classified threads.
    • You may reply within a trading thread ONLY if you are interested in participating in the trade or are providing a valid price comparison as per the next rule.
    • To ensure the seller is asking a fair price you may post information on where it is available new and in stock, direct from a retailer or a link to a similar trade here. Auction sites & 3rd party marketplaces are prohibited. Some examples of sources prohibited are: eBay, PlayTrade, CeX & Amazon Marketplace. Additionally, you cannot use multibuy offers to calculate individual prices for comparisons. You don't have to include a link to that site provided it's easy to find the evidence. We advise that you provide a VALID link to the website showing the goods for sale.

    Wanted Threads

These work differently to For Sale adverts. These are the sole property of the original poster and items offered are for them only. Others may make an offer, such as if member x doesn't want this, I'll take it for the asking price, but the original poster always has first refusal on the item. The one hour rule does not apply on a Wanted advert. The seller offering the item may of course have their own For Sale thread with the same item available. Should an item have offers on both threads, then forum timings will be used to decide priority.
Wanted threads for media items (computer software, DVDs & Blu-rays, Video Games & CDs) must be for specific items.

    Giveaway items

If you want to get rid of something then say that it is free to good home to first person paying a specified sum for postage. Once someone offers this set amount, the deal is finalised. You may not accept a higher amount than that you have specified and must not encourage an auction. We would encourage you to auction the goods for charity.

    Charity Auctions

The only exception to the previous rule is when goods are auctioned for charity. It is permissible to hold an auction for charity, but ONLY with the prior permission of Admin, who will explain on an individual basis the special rules that apply to these events. If you don't want to administer the auction yourself, please ask in the forums and someone may offer to help.

    Completing the Trade

Anyone who fails to honour their obligation in a trade will be contacted by email by admin to ask for an immediate resolution. If this is not forthcoming then we will treat it as a criminal matter and give all the information we have about you to the police when requested. We will also permanently ban you from DBCW. This action is done to protect the community from deliberately fraudulent traders and by trading in DBCW you agree to allow forum admin to pass your details on in the circumstances and method described above.
You are responsible for all trades and sales you take part in. Goods sold remain THE VENDOR'S responsibility until RECEIVED by the buyer.
    We strongly recommend that you:

Request digital photographs of the goods you are purchasing.
Insist on insured delivery and make claims against that insurance where items are damaged or lost in transit.
If you are signing for receipt of goods, unless you have checked and are happy with their condition, mark the delivery receipt 'unchecked'. Otherwise if the goods are later found to be faulty, the vendor and the delivery company are not liable in any way.
Obtain and verify the details of the person you are trading with by, for example, calling them on their landline phone.
If you are transferring monies via bank transfer or any other digital means, check that the name and location of the receiving account matches the detail you have about the vendor and get proof of the transaction.

    Disputes

If there is a dispute over an DBWC trade, please take the following steps:

Reply to your thread detailing exactly what has happened since the trade was agreed which has caused the dispute.
Report your new post to the moderators asking for help to resolve the dispute.
The moderators will do their best to help bring the dispute to an amicable conclusion. This service is not available to trades which have occurred by private message.

    Other Information

DBCW does not get involved with the mechanics of making payments for goods. However, we would like to point out that if the payer uses the Paypal Gift option then they will not have any recourse via Paypal should the trade go wrong. This will not affect any ruling made by DBCW trading moderators with regard to disputed trades.
If you decide you want to remove your advert (either after the deal is completed or with the goods unsold), you should ask a moderator to remove it.
If you see any rule infringements, we would be grateful if you would report these to the moderators by clicking the Report Post button under the post. Please do not post comments in the thread as this will be considered to be spoiling.
